HASHEM MONTASSER - Managing Director & Head of Asset Management 

Mr. Montasser is Head of the Asset Management division. He is responsible for the overall implementation of the Asset Management team’s allocation strategy and chairs the investment committee. Prior to joining EFG Hermes, he served with JPMorgan & Co in London, where he had coverage responsibilities for Middle East financial institutions and central banks focusing on fixed income derivatives and alternative investment products. Prior to that, he worked at Merrill Lynch & Co in New York and also spent a short stint as a Director of Business Development for New York based internet start-up kozmo.com. Mr. Montasser graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a dual concentration in Economics and Near Eastern Languages and Civilization and obtained his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
 

KARIM NEHMA - Managing Director & Head of Investment Team

Karim Nehma oversees the Investment Management Team and is the Fund Manager for EFG-Hermes' flagship, long-only fund, the EFG-Hermes MEDA Fund. Mr. Nehma is responsible for the day to day operation of the regional investment team in Dubai (UAE) and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).

Previously, Mr. Nehma held a position of Senior Financial Analyst in the research department of Sigma Capital, one of the leading brokerage firms in Egypt. Prior to that, he worked at Prime Securities and Raya Holding. Mr. Nehma has been working in the equity research and investment management field for more than nine years.

Mr. Nehma graduated from the American University in Cairo majoring in Accounting.


MOHAMED ABDEL-HALIM - Director

Mohamed Abdel-Halim is a Director in EFG-Hermes Asset Management, UAE. He is also a member of the investment committee that decides on the asset and sector allocations for both the mutual funds and portfolios. Prior to Joining EFG-Hermes Asset Management, he worked at Merrill Lynch Global Private Client in Dubai where he was responsible for managing Institutional and High Net Worth Individuals wealth in excess of USD250 million. He previously worked for Morgan Stanley in Boston covering US private client’s assets in the Private Wealth Management Group.

Mr. Abdel-Halim is a graduate of Boston University with a concentration in Economics, and obtained his Master of Science with honors in Finance/Investment Management from Boston University Graduate School of Management.


FRANCOIS JANSEN VAN RENSBURG - Director

Francois Jansen Van Rensburg is responsible for product development within the asset management function of EFG-Hermes, based in Dubai, UAE. His responsibilities include structuring and launching of new regional and country specific funds as well as structured products on existing funds. Prior to joining EFG-Hermes, Mr. Jansen van Rensburg was a manager with KPMG within Financial Risk Management focusing on the financial services industry and advising financial institutions on market risk, credit risk, and operational risk. Mr. Jansen Van Rensburg worked with KPMG in both South Africa and the Middle East as part of KPMG’s global financial services advisory practice.

Mr. Jansen van Rensburg holds a B.Acc.  (University of Stellenbosch, South Africa), B. Com Hons (University of South Africa), and an International Markets Qualification from the Securities Institute, London. Mr. Jansen van Rensburg is also a member of the South African Institute of Financial Markets and the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). 


DALIA SHAFIK - Director

Dalia Shafik is the fund manager of The EFG-Hermes Egypt Fund. The Fund has been ranked top performing fund by the International Herald Tribune several times over the past years. She joined the Asset Management division in 2003 where she participated in the structuring of several fixed income and insurance portfolios along with engineering-structured products. She is a member of the investment committee that decides on the asset and sector allocations for both the Mutual Funds and Portfolios. Prior to joining EFG-Hermes Asset Management, she held a position of Senior Financial Analyst at the Research Department at Cairo & Alexandria Stock Exchanges.

She holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the American University in Cairo. In 1998, Ms. Shafik graduated with highest honors from the American University in Cairo with Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.


MAY EL HOSHY - Director

May El Hoshy joined EFG-Hermes Asset Management as a Director focusing on Product and Business Development in Egypt. Prior to joining EFG-Hermes, Ms. El Hoshy was the Managing Director of ABN AMRO Delta Asset Management with a focus on the Egyptian Market. She was also previously a Deputy Director at ABN AMRO Delta Securities responsible for the Equity Research division.

Ms. El Hoshy graduated with honors from the American University in Cairo with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Economics. She also concluded the American Express Credit Training Program and EFG-Hermes Credit & Investment Course.


ZIAD SHABAAN - Director & Head of Fixed Income

Ziad Shaaban joined EFG-Hermes in 2007 to head up the Fixed Income Group and was responsible for structuring, financing, and advising on investment opportunities.

Prior to joining EFG-Hermes, Mr. Shaaban worked in the credit derivatives division at JP Morgan in London since 2003.

Currently, Mr. Shaaban heads up the Fixed Income Group within Asset Management. Mr. Shaaban is a CFA Charter holder, holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Economics from the London School of Economics, and a Bachelor degree in Economics from the American University of Beirut.


KHALIL EL BAWAB - Director

Khalil El Bawab joined EFG-Hermes in May 2007 and is responsible for managing Egyptian money market funds, capital protected funds, and fixed income portfolios.

Prior to joining EFG-Hermes Asset Management, Khalil held the position of Assistant Chief Dealer at Arab Bank plc's Treasury & Capital Markets Department where he worked since 1998.

In 1998, Mr. El Bawab graduated with high honors from the American University in Cairo with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He went on to get his MBA in Banking and Finance from Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands in 2008.
